Retired Priest Appeal

Retired Priest

Will you help look after our retired priests?

The St. John Vianney House in Vermont Street, Ponsonby has been a home for retired priests since 2001. Since then, 55 priests have either resided or convalesced there.

As more priests retire, the diocese is extending the house to include 7 extra units and upgrading existing facilities. To complete this project, an appeal has been set up to raise a further $1 million.

Would you consider supporting this appeal for our retired priests?

If you wish to help, please visit  www.sjvh.org.nz to make a donation.

Mr. J. Ekeroma, R.I.P.

Mr. EkeromaThe SPC Old Boys’ Association are saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Julius Ekeroma, who taught in the intermediate school for a decade and a half from the late-70s and was very well liked by boys at the college. Those who were taught or coached by him will well remember (among other things) his strong faith, commitment to teaching, hand-writing exercises, love of softball and rugby, occasional afternoon chin-on-chest snoozes, selling of apples, sending a boy early to the tuckshop to get him a pie, his no nonsense discipline and sense of humour. Our thoughts are with his family. Rest in Peace.

UPDATED: Headmaster Fouhy resigns…but doesn’t retire!

KieranIn June, the school community was surprised (to say the least!) to hear Headmaster Kieran Fouhy announce that, after 27 years leading the school, he would be standing down at the end of this year. Since 1989 he has overseen an incredible transformation of the school, whilst retaining the values that have been intrinsic to the spirit of the college since the Christian Brothers first walked into the classrooms in 1939. The S.P.C. Old Boys’ Association wish him and family all the best as the year progresses.

It has now been announced the Mr. Fouhy is to take up the position of Headmaster at St. Paul’s, Ponsonby. You can read an article about his appointment in the Weekend Herald here
